Established by Amara Okoji in 2018 and based in Lagos, Nigeria, AMA OKOJI COUTURE is an ethical and sustainable women’s wear brand which produces clothes and accessories with indigenous handmade materials, long lasting African wax prints, reclaimed textiles and natural fibers.
Our pieces are versatile, timeless and are inspired by African tradition with a mix of modern fashion techniques. Designed for the modern woman, we make the wearer’s comfort our top priority and the safety of our planet the essence of our existence.
At the core of our business are social, economic and environmental responsibilities. We impact our community by empowering women and youths through training and job creation, supporting and promoting crafts of artisans within our community. We aim highly at exceeding international production standards while ensuring fashion makers and artisans are treated with respect and provided with fair and decent working conditions. In other to widen our understanding, our founder is a member of Ethical Fashion Initiative Network.
As a sustainability driven brand, we ensure our activities have minimal or no negative impact on our environment; hence we do not discard our scrap fabrics but use them in creating new unique designs. We educate and sensitize other local tailors to reuse their scrap fabrics and this has become another stream of income for those who have keyed into this necessary global fashion revolution.
Ama Okoji Couture is given to supporting indigenous small scale textile makers(especially women owned) – the hand-painted fabrics, tie-die (adire), batik, akwaete and asooke makers because we are poised to making economic impact in our society.
